Since the preparation of the first Interim Report of the Forum [see Forum
Documents] members continue to meet at monthly intervals.
At the January 2001 meeting, two further presentations were made: the
first was by Dr Paul Beirne, a post-graduate researcher in University
College Cork, focusing on the essential criteria for the establishment of
reliable scientific research data, and the second was by Professor William
Binchy on ethical and legal issues.
At the meeting in February 2001, a presentation was made by Mr Ray Parle,
a Principal Environmental Health Officer, concerning water plants which
are involved in the fluoridation process.
The meeting which was scheduled for March 2001, at which two guest
speakers were due to give presentations (one raising environmental
concerns and the other discussing work done in the area of
fluoridation-related research) had to be cancelled due to "Foot and
Mouth" Disease control measures. It is hoped to re-schedule.
As mentioned elsewhere on this site, Dr Elizabeth Cullen of the Irish
Doctors' Environmental Association has recently joined the Forum.
It should be noted that the Forum keeps its requirements for specific
expertise under ongoing review, and may further extend its membership if
required.
Details of new members will be given here as they are appointed.
